Recently, Wellington College Hangzhou welcomed some special guests - Coach Chen Jia along with her team from the Hangzhou Swimming Team. Their trip was not only for a visit and exchange of ideas but also to discover new swimming talent within the Hiba Nursery. This visit undoubtedly represents a high level of recognition for our school's achievements in swimming education.

As the cradle that once nurtured the Olympic champion Sun Yang, the Hangzhou Swimming Team is renowned nationwide for its rigorous training system and exceptional competitive achievements. Coach Chen and her team paid a visit to the Hiba Nursery, where they engaged in warm interactions with the children. Through observing their performance and engaging in conversation, they were able to gain a preliminary insight into the children's interests and potential in swimming. During this interaction, Coach Chen shared valuable swimming techniques with the children, encouraging them to be courageous and tenacious, and to pursue their dreams with focussed determination.

Coach Chen remarked, "Hiba Academy Hangzhou offers one of the few swimming courses available in the city. They have a strong teaching team and attach high significance to the course, which can be reflected in their facility investment, security supervision and curriculum design. They recognise the profound benefits of swimming for the physical development of young children and its role in building their self-confidence and confidence in water. Overall, I am quite satisfied with selecting this nursery."

It is worth mentioning that Hugo, a primary school pupil from Hiba Academy Hangzhou, previously a pupil at Hiba Academy Hangzhou, has now emerged as a rising star in the Hangzhou Swimming Team. Hugo's growth is the epitome of our achievements in swimming education and inspires our nursery children. His demonstrated performance on the swimming team has strengthened Coach Chen and her team’s confidence in our school's swimming education.

Young Chen, Head of Swimming, said, “The swimming curriculum we have developed for Hiba Nursery pupils utilises a fun and engaging approach to encourage our children to gain confidence in the water and develop personal life-saving skills. Our goal is to provide safe and enjoyable swimming lessons for all our pupils.”

At Wellington College Hangzhou, we have two swimming pools, one large and one small. The larger one is a 25m long, 6-lane swimming pool that meets industry standards and uses a touchpad sensor. The pool water quality is tested daily by dedicated personnel to ensure water quality and safety. Our swimming coaches are all highly skilled professionals, including Ms. Caron, the former chief coach for the Singapore National Synchronised Swimming Team, and an international coach and referee for artistic swimming, who teaches artistic swimming for our CCA programme and at Wellington Academy and coaches our artistic swimming team.

In previous years, we have staged numerous inter-school competitions with Wellington Shanghai and Wellington Tianjin, as well as swimming contests with other bilingual and international schools. The school also holds annual trials for the swimming team, and children who excel in swimming can join the team for training and competition, giving them a competitive edge for their future academic pathway and resume.

Be You. Be More.

Wellington College Hangzhou has placed demonstrated emphasis on its sports programme, including swimming. The establishment of a strong swimming team, coupled with the exceptional performance of our young athletes in competitions across various levels, showcases our commitment to promoting sportsmanship and fostering the holistic development of our pupils.
